Always Stretch Your Calves: If you are suffering from plantar fasciitis or you want to prevent an injury you want to make sure that you are stretching the calf muscle sufficiently. The Achilles tendon and the calf muscle attach just above the base of the plantar fasciitis and have been known to relieve pain and help to heal the injury when they are stretched properly. You want to stretch the muscle often whether for healing or prevention.
Don’t Overdo Training: Many runners are running for a goal. They may be looking for a time that they want to beat, a distance that they want to meet or a competition they want to compete in. Whatever it is, you need to gradually increase your running so that your body is able to handle the stress. You cannot do your personal training based on another runner. Each person is different and needs to increase at different rates and also require resting that may be vastly different as well. Be sure to listen to your body and give yourself plenty of time to get your goal with the proper amount of time so you are not pushing too hard.
Rest Any Foot Injuries: If you are an avid runner you never want to be told that you need to take a few days and especially a few weeks off from running. The problem is that if you are suffering from plantar fasciitis you are going to need to rest to stop the pain from getting worse. You need to do stretching and massages to give the tissue time to heal. Then when it is time to get back to running you want to be sure that you ease into it so you do not re-injure the same area.
